Using up some of my scraps

Not as much progress as I would have wanted but a few more blocks from scraps for the Long Time Gone quilt along: 2 Crosses of the UK (42more are needed!)

as well as 3 blocks for the Block Lotto

With those 5 blocks, I now have 16 blocks this month for 350-blocks challenge.

Saunio cardigan

I started my Saunio cardigan this week-end and everything that go wrong went wrong indeed. I swapped the front pieces and only realised when I had sewn the sleeves on. I tried to unpick and made a hole in the fabric. So in the end I cut on my seams and started again with pieces 1 cm shorter...
Anyway, I got it to the point I could get to before I get the interfacing I need to sew the facing on.

and today was Mother's day in England and I got some lovely present from hubby and the children.

I am really looking forward to using the Maker's Atelier book, there are some very nice pieces in there.

Wanta Fanta

A quilt made with the help of my friends!

It took 2 bees to gather almost enough blocks for this lovely pink quilt for my youngest daughter. I received the blocks in 2015 from my Bee mates but decided I needed a few more and of course... it has taken a long time to make the remaining blocks.

I finally finished the top earlier this year and let my daughter shop my stash for the border fabric. She went for 2 pale pink fabric to frame it.
And earlier in March, the quilt finally made it to the frame. I tried something new there by quilting with a ruler. Now I don't have a special ruler or a special foot and I was told after I posted my picture on IG that it was a bad idea to quilt with ruler with a regular quilting foot as I could have damaged my machine badly. I am glad it all went well to be honest. And I really like the effect on the borders.

I drew some massive flowers in the middle of the white "squares"

and this is the final quilt off the frame, ready for binding.
and done!

Just a few more blocks

I have been playing with more scraps to make blocks for the Long Time Gone quilt along and I have managed to finish a few more blocks, still trying to stay ahead of the game as the pace will pick up and it will be hard to keep up!
I finished the Square in a Square Star block

2 Crosses of the UK (4 more are needed!)

and 4 pineapple blocks. There are 16 of these in the quilt and I just coudn't envisage doing them all within a week.

And I also made my 2 flowers for the Inchy Hexie Swap
With those 9 blocks, I now have 11 blocks this month for 350-blocks challenge.

Elephants Parade

Finally, one UFO crossed of my list! My elephant parade quilt is finished and gifted to my daughter!

I started this quilt in February 2015 with Lorna's quilt-along and when I made my first 2 elephant Mummy
They look at me accusingly from my design wall for a while before being moved to a box...
and after a long drought, I picked the box again in October when I cut and sew all the elephants

There was just the "other" blocks left to make at this stage, not much really... Well it wasn't until February this year that I finally finished piecing the top for quilting
And then of course we went away and there was lots to do anyway, so although this was my UFO challenge for February, I didn't start to quilt it until 28th February. It was easy and fast to quilt on the frame actually

And then I took the (stupid) decision to cut my binding 2' wide. Why? I still don't know but it was horrible to sew down by hand, just so narrow.... anyway, I did my last few stitches on Sunday, buried the threads and gave it to my daughter as a late birthday present. Of course she loves it anyway!

Quilt stats:
Fabric from my stash

Quilted with YLI and Superior Threads
Started February 2015 - Finished March 2017

A new project...

This week has seen the start of the Long Time Gone quilt-along. run by Angie and Nicole. I love Jen Kingwell patterns, I have now quite a few in my collection, some I have (only just) started so a quilt/along sounded like a good idea (of course, that's if you ignore the crazy timeline it is run by, but who cares about that!) Sure I won't be able to keep up, but why not at least try :-D
and I can tame some of my scraps too.... so it's all win of course!

Anyway too late, I have slipped and joined in!
The first 2 blocks are these Bow Tie blocks.... and tick they're done already!

Next week is a Square in a Square Star with loads of geese....
And after that, lots and lots of blocks.
Anyway 2 blocks for 350-block challenge this month

The dressmaking bug has hit me! And I am now eyeing (and buying dressmaking fabric)... so before I get to a non manageable stash, I thought it would be a good idea to start a new piece. I bought the Mabel pattern a few weeks ago and some lovely jersey knit fabric so last night I took the plunge and cut the skirt. I choose version  3 which is a little longer on the pattern.

I measure myself and cut all the pieces. And because it wasn't that late when I had it all cut, I started the assembling. Well it went together so fast, in an hour I had made the skirt bar the bottom hem.

I tried it on before going to bed, only to realise I had measured/seen myself fatter on the waist that what I really am.... so yesterday morning I unpicked the waist band (awful job, which also took an hour ;-( but I am glad I did it). And by the afternoon, I had a finished Mabel skirt, that fits me! I managed to sew the hem with my twin needle without a problem (so much easier after reading the instructions on how to use the twin needle in my machine booklet!)

I love it and have already worn it today!

One more OPAM for March!

Easy sewing? Home deco

I had on my to-do list some pillowcases for the kids. Originally they were planned for their birthdays but that never happened...

The fabric has been sitting there for a while, waiting for the right time. And earlier this week, I thought it was the right time! What can be more difficult or time consuming that 3 pillowcases?

Well not much, as long as you sew them correctly.... and out of 3, I managed to sew 3 incorrectly. Oh don't worry. I made 3 different mistakes.... so I left them on the side and threw them in the washing machine....

and finally this afternoon, I got back to them... I thought long and hard at how I needed to fold the fabric, pinned it and tried to turn it inside out and... bang, finally I got it right!

Tonight all 3 kids will be sleeping resting their lovely head on their belated birthday present!

And that adds 3 OPAM to my list as well as one off my Q1 FInish Along list!

Bunnies, testing a pattern

I haven-t had much time to sew this week between a crazy amount of work but also another birthday and some cakes but I had a deadline to keep my focus.

I tested Hippity Hoppity that has been designed by Nadra

I don't have an Easter quilt so this was a good one to try!
The mini is made of little bunnies like this one
just 4 of them
that are sashed into a square
and then finished into a cute little mini

Now if you are looking for a quick and easy cute mini for Easter, head over to Nadra's site to buy the pattern.

Quilt stats:
Fabric all from my stash
Quilted with superior thread #926 and #993
Started and finished in March 2017
15' square

And these are 4 blocks for March and my first OPAM

60 days of the 100 challenge

Well, the challenge started already 2 months ago (where does the time disappear?) and looking back, it seems that I have massively lost focus in February.... But then there has been the multiple birthday parties and a week away as well!

1. Hello Kitty quilt for my niece - squares all cut - no pogress at all on this one...

2. Farmer's Wife blocks - no progress at all this month so I still need 15 blocks to meet the challenge...

3. Project 48 -  only 1 block this month, taking my total to 23 out of 48.... not even half way yet

It is really time to turn my attention back to these projects or I won't meet any of my 3 challenges.... 40 days left, let's see if I can make progress on these or if I continue to digress.
